Mykonos
Getting there:
We flew into Paris from Perth, WA. I knew that after exploring Paris for a few days I wanted the most direct route to get to a Greek island from Paris. (I have done Athens a few times, it’s definitely worth seeing. However, we were limited for time) When I googled what island I could fly into from Paris, Mykonos came up so that’s what we did!
A few of the bigger and busier islands like Mykonos, Santorini and Crete have airports you can fly into from major cities like Paris, Rome, Naples, Milan… so I definitely recommend doing this. And basing your trip around that. For example, I knew that from Mykonos the smartest option was to then get the ferry too islands like Paros or Milos and end in Santorini which has the airport to then fly out of to fly home.
Booking ferries is very easy. I did this beforehand through HOME - FAST FERRIES
MYKONOS
What a V I B E!!! It is just SO picturesque.
You have probably heard a lot of people say it is windy and very cosmopolitan… maybe we were lucky, but we literally experienced no wind at all… and yes, it’s very cosmopolitan - but SO COOL!!!!! I have never experienced such incredible food… and mojitos in my life. Legit everywhere we ate in Mykonos was INSANE!
We managed to sneak in a couple of extra days in Mykonos from leaving Paris earlier… so I decided to choose a side of the island that had accommodation sitting above a protected bay in case it was to be windy.
I feel so grateful that we did this as it was THE BEST way to start our trip… we literally rocked up to PARADISE!
ACCOMODATION
First Stop: CASA DEL MAR
I mean!!! We hung by the pool, watched our big boy run down to the beach and snorkel and enjoyed eating at their restaurant that sat directly over the ocean! But mostly had the best quality family time.
Everything about this seaside resort was perfection. The service, the cleanliness and the food.
We stayed in the:
Royal Beachfront infinity pool Villa
Location: Glyfadi Beach
Second stop: MYKONOS BAY RESORT
What a dream!!! I have never experienced service like it and the rooms/facilities were immaculate!
Breakfast - insane!! They don’t like you going hungry, haha. My husband would work early mornings and he said the second they saw his coffee was empty they would make him another one!!
I found it quite overwhelming picking where to stay…I will touch on this more shortly. However Mykonos Bay Resort seem to tick all the boxes. Real close to town and across the road from a beach (the windier side, but legit when we were there, there was 0 wind).
Wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. My fam bam and I LOVED IT.
We stayed in The annex building:
Private Luxury Art Suite View with private Spa & Pool
Location: Megali Ammos. 10 minute walk to town.
WHERE TO STAY
I did find this overwhelming. We loved being close to town. Where you can walk in and grab a bite to eat or get lost exploring the beautiful streets.
So Mykonos Bay was perfect for this. Also anywhere in little Venice.
However, if you are there more for quality fam bam time and long days at the beach…after spending 5 days in Mykonos recently it taught me that there are some other incredible locations that I will definitely be staying when we go back next year. That are probably more family friendly.
Ornos & Platis Gialos. Only a bus into town but both equipped with loads of restaurants and most importantly surrounded by protected beaches that are just beautiful… this way you’re getting the best of both worlds. Some days you wouldn’t even need to go into main town.
How to Get Around
I definitely reccomend getting a car! There may be some days you dont need it and choose to have quiet one hanging by the pool. But there are so many great beaches to explore - we loved having the flexibility!
We used Mykonos Rent A Car - and they were fantastic!
BEACHES TO VISIT
Platis Gialos
Gyfadi Bay
Ornos
Kalo Livadi
Are all must sees! Depedning on the winds, when you are there aslk the locals what ones would be the best to explore!
LAUNDRY
This may seem like a random thing to share, but oh my goodness the accomodation charged SO much for laundry…Legit thr price of buying a washing machine back home - ha ha so I found the coolest service Mili Laundry Service !!! They picked up in their scooter in the morning and had it back to us that evening.
